Meeting with Popette, Bassin artist

Today we go to the discovery of Popette, a passionate artist in love with Bassin, B'A partner, who illustrates it in his art deco style paintings! Arcachon, Cap Ferret, the Dune du Pilat and many others emblematic places of the Bassin of Arcachon, Popette designs “vintage” posters and shares her love for Bassin in her creations.

Visit the “La Maison d’ici” store with Popette

It's 3 p.m., that's the time we have meet Popette at the “La Maison d’Ici” boutique where she exhibits her paintings at Cap Ferret. Why La Maison d’Ici? Because it is the starting point of his career. An almost random meeting between the manager Valentine and her husband who wanted to share his first drawings. When we arrive, we discover a shy woman, a little modest when complimented and very pleasant. Looking more closely at her paintings, we observe that one of Popette's muses strongly resembles Valentine, the store manager! When we understand that Popette draws its inspiration from observation, there is no longer any doubt about it!
His universe? The Bassin, old cars and above all pretty tanned women with rounded curves that she enjoys observing on the beach before drawing them on her paintings.

“My hand does not guide my brain”

This passion for drawing is a family story that is passed down from mother to daughter! Today, Popette expresses herself and lives her drawings as she sees fit. After discovering her world, we wanted to see her in full inspiration to discover her cocoon and share a little of her creation. She then takes us to a place that she is currently drawing: the Villa des Hirondelles in Cap Ferret.
After having settled down at her side, we observe her silently while she takes out her pencils and her canvas. Her pencil case is filled with pencils of all colors. Besides, Popette explains that it sometimes takes several pencils of the same shade to create a single shade!
Once seated under the pines facing the Villa of the Swallows, she tells us how she draws, specifying that it is “her hand that guides her brain”… Popette, she likes to draw the women she observes. She admits to being inspired by the shapes of one and the hair of another. She composes her paintings with her memories.

A heart-stopping encounter with a Bassin artist which we will continue to follow very closely. Popette, the Bassin, she loves it, she shares it! Just like us!
