Head to the Banc d’Arguin National Nature Reserve, one of the natural gems of the Arcachon Bay!
At the food of the Dune du Pilat and facing the Tip of Cap Ferret, the Banc d’Arguin continually changes shape according to the winds and marine currents. Arguin is home to a multitude of birds that nest in the sand, which is why it’s essential not to enter the “zone de protection intégrale” (integral protection zone) which is roped off, and it is also important to bring your trash back with you.
Embark on a boat
You won’t have a choice, to get there you’ll have to take a boat! On board a traditional boat called a “pinasse”, a barge, maritime shuttle or a water taxi, cross the Bassin to the Banc d'Arguin. Depart from the peninsula of Lege-Cap Ferret Depart from the peninsula of Lège-Cap Ferret for a boat ride of about 20 minutes or from the port or the Thiers Pier ofArcachon for a journey of about 1 hour at sea. For sailing enthusiasts, it is also possible to rent a boat for the day.

A protected place for birds
In addition to being beautiful and wild, the Banc d'Arguin is also a protected resting area for many migratory birds. If you visit during spring and summer, you may spot the Sandwich Tern, small gulls with black heads, or the Eurasian Oystercatcher. The Banc d'Arguin is monitored by the SEPANSO guards. Camping and dogs are not allowed.

In July and August, volunteer nature guides from SEPANSO are available to answer all your questions. You can even join a free guided tour of the Banc d'Arguin every Wednesday afternoon or observe the birds with a telescope (meeting point at the exhibition cabin).
